Smith's Sole Heir

Anna Nicole Smith's daughter will inherit her late mother's estate. A Los Angeles judge not only made her 18-month-old daughter, Dannielynn the sole heir, but also set up a trust in the girl's name. Her father, Larry Birkhead, and Smith's executor, Howard K. Stern, will be co-trustees. Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted a petition filed by Stern, who wanted to clarify Smith's intentions toward her daughter. Smith drafted a will in 2001, Five years before the child was born, that left her estate to her then only child, Daniel. However, it said the assets in Daniel's trust should be shared equally if she had future children. Daniel was 20 when he died in 2006, three days after Dannielynn was born. "We and Mr. Stern always believed that Anna Nicole never intended to disinherit her daughter," Stern's lawyer, Bruce S. Ross, said after the hearing. "I'm pleased to say this chapter in the saga is closed." Dannielynn could inherit millions of dollars if the estate wins an ongoing court fight over the oil fortune of Smith's late second husband, J. Howard Marshall. Smith at one point won a $474 million judgment but it was eventually reduced to zero. In 2006, the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated her claim.

Body Of Katoucha Found

The body of Katoucha Niane, one of the first African women to attain international stardom as a model and a vocal opponent of female genital mutilation, was found in the Seine River, police said. Known simply as Katoucha, the former top model for Yves Saint Laurent and other top designers was found near the Garigliano bridge in Paris, judicial police in Paris said. An autopsy showed no signs of foul play, pointing to the possibility that the she may have fallen accidentally into the river, they said. Katoucha had been missing since January and was last seen returning home from a party. She lived in a houseboat near Paris' Alexandre III bridge, and her handbag was later found on the boat. The Guinean-born model ran away to Europe at 17 and wanted to be a model. Her big break came when Jules-Francois Crahay, then the designer at Lanvin, spotted her in a line-up. They hired her as a fitting model. Her first catwalk modeling was for Thierry Mugler at the start of the 1980s. After quitting the runway, she turned to speaking out actively against female circumcision, describing her own experience at age 9 in a book, "Katoucha, In My Flesh," which was published last year. "I will never get the incomparable pain out of my head," she wrote in the book, which she dedicated to her three children. Vanity Fair's fashion and style director, Michael Roberts, said Katoucha was "one of those girls who used her fame to spotlight the misfortunes of others." "She always seemed so gracious and very lovely," he said. "She was Sunny and she was bright, and I liked her a lot."

Pamela Anderson is seeking an annulment, rather than a divorce, from husband Rick Salomon. Anderson is seeking to annul the two-month marriage based on fraud. No other details were available, and Anderson's publicist would not comment. In court papers filed in Los Angeles, California, Anderson asked the court not to award spousal support and to keep her and Salomon's income and property separate. Anderson also filed a request to have a retired judge handle the annulment proceedings, a common practice in celebrity split-ups as it keeps matters private and out of the court. Anderson and Salomon were married Oct. 6 in Las Vegas and separated Dec. 13. Lohan's Dad Refuses

Lindsay Lohan's father refuses to look at nude photos of her posing as Marilyn Monroe. Michael Lohan refuses to see the pictures of Lindsay in the new issue of New York magazine, but accepts it was "her decision" to agree to the shoot. He said: "I'm not going to look at the photos, that's my daughter! But Lindsay is an adult, and she knows the direction she wants to take her career. It's her decision." However, Michael did recognize that being asked to recreate Bert Stern's famous "Last Sitting" photos of Marilyn Monroe was a huge honor for Lindsay. He added, "The fact that the photographer Bert Stern who did Marilyn Monroe's pictures would ask Lindsay to re-create them, that's an amazing thing." Michael also hopes Lindsay doesn't fully follow in Marilyn's footsteps, because the blonde iconic star died of a drugs overdose aged 36. He said: "I pray there are no parallels to her and Marilyn Monroe's destiny." Meanwhile, Lindsay's mother Dina has lent her support to her daughter, saying the photos were "tastefully done." She said: "It was very tastefully done. I respect the photographer as an artist, so I look at them artistically. For him to call Lindsay 46 years later and to say can you recreate these photos is an honor." She added, "I looked at it as art, and as Lindsay doing a character." "So I don't look at them like it's Playboy, she was being a character. If you look at it that way, you can look at it as a mother."

Lohan Recreates Photos

Lindsay Lohan is following in the footsteps of the most famous blonde bombshell of them all, Marilyn Monroe. In the latest issue of New York magazine, Lohan poses nude for photographer Bert Stern in a recreation of one of Monroe's most famous photo shoots, done shortly before she died. Stern photographed Monroe in 1962 at the Hotel Bel-Air in California, six weeks before she was found dead from an overdose of barbiturates. Those images for Vogue magazine feature Monroe in next to nothing, posing nude with some scarves and jewelry as her accessories and sipping champagne. Stern recreated those images with Lohan at the same hotel, with Lohan wearing a blond wig and not much else. In the essay accompanying the photos, Lohan, who admitted to a serious interest in Monroe, said deciding to do the photo shoot was easy. "I didn't have to put much thought into it. I mean, Bert Stern? Doing a Marilyn shoot? When is that ever going to come up? It's really an honor," she said. Lohan described Monroes suicide as "tragic" and said it, along with the Jan. 22 death of actor Heath Ledger from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, are both prime examples of what this industry can do to someone. Stern said that he found women like Lohan and her tabloid companions Paris Hilton and Britney Spears interesting. "They're girls that draw attention to their notoriety and their celebrity through their behavior," he said. He said he thought the photo shoot would be good for Lohan, giving her the chance to portray herself as a grown-up. He also lauded her for her willingness to do it in the nude. "I thought she was a natural, not at all squeamish," he said.

McCartney Divorce Battle

The divorce hearing between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills will continue a second week, after a judge allotted extra time for the couple's court case. The hearing had been scheduled to end, but officials at London's Royal Courts of Justice said the case before Justice Hugh Bennett would continue into next week. Mills and McCartney separated in 2006 after four years of marriage and have since traded blows in the media while trying, and failing, to agree on divorce terms. The hearing was called to decide on Mills' share of the former Beatle's fortune, estimated at as much as $1.6 billion. Media reports suggest that McCartney has offered Mills about $50 million and that she is seeking at least double that amount. The couple have been in court every day this week, but few details have emerged. Divorce proceedings are heard in private, and the courtroom is closed to journalists and the public. McCartney has hired lawyer Fiona Shackleton, and Mills, who fired her legal team late last year, is representing herself. After the hearing ends, Bennett is expected to take several weeks to consider his settlement. The terms will not become public unless it is challenged in the Court of Appeal, or either of the parties chooses to reveal details. The couple married in June 2002, and their daughter was born in October the following year. They announced their separation in 2006, and McCartney filed for divorce alleging "unreasonable behavior" by his wife.

Father's Legal Power

A Superior Court commissioner gave Britney Spears' father the power to fire her business manager, according to court documents. Commissioner Reva Goetz also ordered Howard Grossman to turn over all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears to James Spears, who is the court-appointed conservator of his daughter and her estate. The order came the day after Goetz held an emergency closed-door hearing on a motion brought by Spears' father and her lawyer Andrew Wallet, who is part of the conservatorship. Spears parents said they feared their daughters life was at risk after she was released early from a hospital psychiatric ward. Spears' affairs were placed under a temporary conservatorship after she was taken to UCLA Medical Center on Jan. 31 under heavy police escort. Conservatorship are granted for people deemed unable to care for themselves or their affairs. The conservatorship lasts until Feb. 14. Spears was discharged from the hospital over the recommendation of her psychiatrist and against the wishes of her parents. Her parents said they were extremely disappointed she was released and they said they were deeply concerned about her safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk. Spears slipped out of the hospital unnoticed by the pack of paparazzi that follow her every move in public, but they gave chase later when she left her home behind the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz and eventually showed up at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Spears Released

Britney Spears was released from a psychiatric ward at the UCLA Medical Center after nearly a week of treatment. It was unclear where she was going, but sources said she might head to one of her homes before seeking additional treatment. Unlike the spectacle surrounding her trip to the Westwood medical facility last week, she slipped out with relatively little fanfare. A private security detail escorted her in contrast to last week when more than a dozen Los Angeles police officers escorted Spears to the hospital via motorcade. Her release comes after Spears' mother, in court documents, said her daughter's self-described friend and manager, Sam Lutfi, exerted near-total control over her, cutting her phone lines, taking away her cellphone chargers, disabling her vehicles and grinding up pills to place in her food. Spears' mother made the allegations in a request for a restraining order against Lutfi. The restraining order, approved bars Lutfi from coming within 250 yards of Spears. Spears'father and an attorney have been granted temporary conservatorship over Spears and her estate. According to sources, a grand theft report was filed by Spears' father, Jamie Spears, after the she was taken to the UCLA hospital last week. The grand theft report alleges that paintings, jewelry and other valuables were taken from his daughter's Coldwater Canyon home. "A limited number of people had access to the home in that period," the source said.

Spears To Stay In Hospital

Britney Spears got her stay in a psychiatric ward extended further as doctors decided to keep her hospitalized an additional 14 days. Spears was to be released from UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric hospital, but doctors and a medical officer at the ward determined that she should remain, said the spokesman. Spears was committed for a 72-hour hold for evaluation. Paramedics, flanked by a police escort of about a dozen officers on motorcycles, in cars and a helicopter, took Spears from her home to the psychiatric hospital before dawn. To extend her stay, hospital staff members cited a section in the state law that allows patients to be retained for medical treatment if they are found to be gravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others.

Spears Sex Tape

If Britney Spears didn't already have her hands full , she certainly does now. A raunchy sex tape starring the pop singer was leaked on the web. The 30 minute video shows the shaven headed pop star performing sex acts with 2 unidentified females and a male companion. During the video, the dazed Britney consumes alcohol and what appears to be cocaine and marijuana. The tape will undoubtedly cause more problems for her already troubled custody battle with ex-hubby Kevin Federline. Spears had to temporarily surrender custody of her sons to Federline because she defied a court order. After-hour calls to attorneys representing Spears and Federline were not immediately returned.

Spears Taken To Hospital

Britney Spears was taken from her home by ambulance early Thursday and escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen police officers in cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters. A Los Angeles police officer said Spears was being taken to the hospital to "get help." Unidentified authorities said Spears was being placed on a "mental evaluation hold." There were reports that her psychiatrist felt Spears, who is followed night and day by paparazzi, was a danger to herself because of reckless driving and a recent deterioration in her behavior. Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where her mother, Lynne, was seen leaving its psychiatric hospital at about 5:30 a.m. The source close to Spears said she went willingly to the hospital and is "comfortable" about receiving medical care. "She'll be in there for at least 72 hours getting evaluated. She might even stay longer," the source claimed. "She's more comfortable this time. She came into the waiting area, had a cigarette, made a joke about being there again. But who knows what will happen. All we can hope for is that she gets better." A plan was reportedly in place in the event Spears needed medical attention. "Something like this has been in the works since the (last trip to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center). She has been seeing her psychiatrist every day," the source said. "No one thought this would happen this soon, but it was clear if she stayed up for more than three days she'd have to get sent for help, since that could cause real damage. The last time she slept was Saturday." The source also said that the arrangement to get Spears help worked out just as planned. "The motorcade and everything was planned, it was already in the works to have them block off the road and airspace. It worked out perfectly."

Pleshette Dies

SuzAnne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died at age 70. Pleshette, whose career included roles in such films as Hitchcock's "The Birds" and in Broadway plays including "The Miracle Worker," died of respiratory failure at her Los Angeles home, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein. Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006. "The Bob Newhart Show," a hit throughout its six-year run, starred comedian Newhart as a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients. Pleshette provided the voice of reason. Born Jan. 31, 1937, in New York City, Pleshette began her career as a stage actress after attending the city's High School of the Performing Arts and studying at its Neighborhood Playhouse. She was often picked for roles because of her beauty and her throaty voice. She met her future husband, Tom Poston, when they appeared together in the 1959 Broadway comedy "The Golden Fleecing," but didn't marry him until more than 40 years later. Although the two had a brief romance, they went on to marry others. By 2000 both were widowed and they got back together, marrying the following year. Among her other Broadway roles was replacing Anne Bancroft in "The Miracle Worker," the 1959 drama about Helen Keller, in New York and on the road. She had launched her film career with Jerry Lewis in 1958 in "The Geisha Boy." She went on to appear in numerous television shows, including "Have Gun, Will Travel," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Playhouse 90" and "Naked City." By the early 1960s, Pleshette attracted a teenage following with her youthful roles. She married fellow teen favorite Troy Donahue, her co-star in "Rome Adventure," in 1964 but the marriage lasted less than a year. She was married to Texas oilman Tim Gallagher from 1968 until his death in 2000. Pleshette appeared in such films as Hitchcock's "The Birds" and comedies "The Ugly Dachshund," ''Blackbeard's Ghost." Over the years, she also had a busy career in TV movies, including playing the title role in 1990's "Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean." She also appeared in several episodes of the TV sitcoms "Will & Grace." In a 1999 interview, Pleshette observed that being an actress was more important than being a star. "I'm an actress, and that's why I'm still here," she said. "Anybody who has the illusion that you can have a career as long as I have and be a star is kidding themselves."
